I don’t want to take xanax or other addictive meds.
Try Valerian, you can get it in any pharmacy. It comes in capsule form. Heads up, it has a terrible odor to it. It works for some people.

I don’t mean weed or anything illegal.
I research kava a little, but they say it makes you tired and/or drunk.
Chammomile tea is too mild.
What has worked for you?
Valerian tea has long been used by both Chinese and Indian ayurvedic medicine practitioners as a potent tranquilizing and calming agent.
It is known to have properties that sedate the central nervous system, and thus alleviating feelings of anxiety.
You can make valerian tea out of the dried roots, or simply get the tea bag. It also comes in capsule form.

i have it so bad at times, better said most times, i dont want to leave the house or really be around people. and dont say medicine cuz thats not really helping at all or maybe i havent found the right one.
I only read the first answer and to be honest it really was on the money for the most part.
There are 3 "known" causes of anxiety:
1. family (genes)
2. chemical imbalance
3. environment
These 3 categories really cover everything. Your environment shapes your personality, but your genes could effect your personality as well. Anxiety disorder can be caused by how you act during different stressful situations which creates a cycle of fear and panic attacks.
Your anxiety could also be caused by a chemical imbalance where serotonin in your brain is not being produced properly or there is some problem in that area. This neurotransmitter regulates mood, anger, and other things.
Like the other answer said, you might want to try working with yourself and figuring out what is wrong in your own life before you try medication. Seek a professionals help if you can’t do it on your own. Don’t be afraid to tell the whole truth and question what the doctor offers. You are there to get help, but you have to be vigilant when it comes to your body and mind,
A professional can decide if you need medication or not. You might have to be on medication for a long time before you can finally be free of anxiety. Sometimes medication is used to relax people so they can do some soul searching in a healthy way. Be aware though that medication does have side effects that can hinder your abilities to think. A friend of mine was placed on medication and he has not been the same since. We both suffered from anxiety, but I chose to go without medication and he still takes them 5 years later.

Yes, I could Google it, but every website (of course) is going to say that their product works. I’m very interested in personal experiences. Also, if there is a safe herbal remedy, can you recommend any brands? From what I know, there are companies who sell herbal supplements that aren’t very good…
My thanks in advance for your answers
(((Solly!)))
I had to conquer my anxiety and depression by changing the way that I think, and with exercise. I met a therapist who offered me an alternative. What he said to me made so much more sense than swallowing a happy pill to get thru the ordeal of going to the grocery store. I will try not to sound like an idiot here… LOL He said that we train our brains (by worrying, etc.) to think a certain way, to fear. Over time, that changes our brain chemistry. When we practice changing our thought process, then "over time" we can undo the damage that has been done, creating the chemicals we need to live and think "normally." It made sense, and it worked. Au naturale, no herbs (cannabis just made me paranoid then, lol) and no drugs. Just coping skills.
Oh, it helped that I got a divorce from a poison person, too.

I get very nervous in class and sit facing a girl that I like, I want to be calm, any advice on herbs?
Hello!
There is an herbal remedy called "Rescue Remedy". It comes in a tiny little bottle with kind of an eye dropper type of top to it.
It’s a natural, herbal remedy and you put 1 to 2 drops under your tongue to help relax you when you’re struggling with minor forms of anxiety. It won’t make you sleepy or groggy or anything, it just has a relaxing effect. What you’re talking about is a minor form of anxiety and not a major health issue so I think this would be a good idea for you to try.
You can find Rescue Remedy in any type of herbal store or health food store.
On another note, if you really like this girl? Talk to her!
Don’t be affraid to talk to her and get to know her. The more time you spend talking with her, the more comfortable you will feel with and around her. She won’t bite, I promise!
Don’t be affraid to tell her that you like her as well. I know you’re probably really nervous about saying such a thing and may feel it would sound stupid, but it honestly doesn’t. She might even be flattered that you like her.
Good luck to you!

I have a really bad anxiety problem. I get worked up over any and everything. I had a panic attack on monday. It was really scary. What can I do to calm my anxiety?
At the first sign of one, employ an ANTI PANIC ATTACK breathing technique. Advice from a published psychiatrist on controlled breathing: (1.) Get a clock, or watch with a second timer. (2.) Practise for 5 minutes, 4 times daily, until proficient. (3.) Take a small breath in, and hold it, for 6 seconds. (4.) Think to yourself: "RELAX", just before breathing out. (5.) Try to feel a sense of releasing tension, as you breathe out. (6.) Breathe in for 3 seconds, then out, for 3 seconds. Try to make your breathing very smooth, and light, as you breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth, or nose. (7.) For the next minute, continue to breathe in, and out, every 3 seconds. (8.) Go back to step 3, at the end of the minute, and proceed through to step 7, doing this for 5 minutes. Use this at the very first sign of a panic attack starting, or any time you feel anxious, or tense. Similar, but simpler advice, from a clinical psychologist is to breathe in to the count of 3: (one thousand one; one thousand two; one thousand three) each takes around a second to say to yourself, in your mind, and out to the count of 3. Also see http://deeplyrelax.com & www.deepsloweasy.com/html/intro.htm
Note: the controlled breathing only helps with the symptoms (as do medications/herbal remedies): you need to address the underlying cause, which requires some form of therapy, and Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy has been shown to be effective. Imagine that the cause of your panic; your anxieties, fears, your self doubts, self recriminations, all the agonizing "I’m-so-Stupids"; every painful "I-can’t-do-it" are huge raging, hurtful bulls snorting and charging at you. You see them coming at you and you hold out your red matador’s cape at arms length and simply let them charge right by. Every time they come at you, hold out your arm with the red cape and let them rage and snort and go right on past. Some people recommend nettle tea, with a little honey. Others use Lavender tea, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, but use no milk or cream with herbal teas, or Valerian (caution: its use may become habitual). Know how these affect you before driving, or doing anything dangerous, and it is far better to use the treatments, rather than relying on herbal remedies. There is a free online PANIC COURSE at www.panic-attacks.co.uk and it is also available by email. Well worth a look, too, is the section on panic attacks at www.mind.org.uk which they also have in booklet form.
