Any good natural remedies for severe anxiety?

I am having some very intense anxiety symptoms. I feel kind of numb and having some nausea along with it. Its a scary thing I dont want to have a heart attack or anything. What can I do about this. I am bipolar and was taking Lamictal then was changed to depakote which I do not think is working. I cant take benzodiazipines because I am also an addict so what do I do just give up

Hi! I’m so sorry to hear you’re suffering from anxiety. If you want to try some self-help, the following steps should help eliminate (or significantly reduce) your anxiety:

1.Breathe properly – if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.

2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for anxiety. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can take a course for free online at: http://www.livinglifetothefull.com/elear… It has been funded by NHS Scotland and has had great results thus far.

3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. This site has instructions on how to do it without the tapes (and other useful info): http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resource…

I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck!

I am bipolar also. I got some really good relief from abilify. Abilify has been my cure for my anxiety and mania. I am sure there is something that will be the key to treating your anxiety also. I tried to do it the natural way with herbs, homeopathy, vitamins and accupunture and none of it gave me any relief. Do not give up because there are tons of medications out there left to try and new ones keep comming out all the time.
    Best wishes

Have you told your doctor about all of this? The symptoms you relate are typical for anxiety. Please be very very careful with "natural remedies". There are a lot of them out there and they can have disastrous side effects when taken with some prescription meds. With regard to being an addict, your doctor should be able to address this issue without putting you in any danger. Also, it is important to know when you were switched to depakote. Your physician can review your dosage and also determine what the therapeutic levels are. It is very important that you relate to your doctor about the nausea. Best wishes to you

,Of course not. You will get better. It takes some time. Talk to your Dr. if you don’t think that a medication is working.
Anxiety is a frightening thing, It called the fight or flight syndrome. You will NOT have a heart attack.
Practice breathing techniques to calm yourself. Take a class with others who have this disorder. If you are an addict I hope you have stopped the drug use. If not illegal meds can complicate things. If you have stopped, congratulations. Your body is getting used to a new lifestyle.
If you feel an attack coming on, focus on something fun or menial. (such as look at a passing car and think of how you would paint it to look better. If you see a bird outside concentrate on that) In other words, no heavy thinking about heavy subjects. You will find that the anxiety attack will pass quickly. Oh yes, another helpful hint splash cold water on your face and the back of your neck.
I hope some of these suggestions helped.

All anxiety can be avoided if you can have no false beliefs or expectations. Be real in life despite of what your are taught. The brain makes you very sick when it has to erase a false belief.
