You need more than Herbs for Anxiety.

I am a firm believer in using herbs for anxiety to help you quickly recover your balance and return to a healthier state. However, just as medication is not the answer with their side effects, herbs for anxiety are not a permanent cure, but rather an important step along the way.

Taking herbs for anxiety need to be accompanied with relaxation techniques as well as the search for resolution to the root cause of your anxiety. For each of us this may be different, some being more obvious than others. Let’s take a look at the following areas of our life:

Work:-

Are you in a stressful job, or have problems at work that are causing you anxiety? You may dislike your job or feel trapped in it because of other issues such as financial needs.

Home Life:-

Are there problems at home? Looking after a sick relative, struggling in a relationship or maybe you are in an abusive or damaging relationship. Whether one of these or something else causing you anxiety at home over a long period of time.

Financial:-

You may, like so many people are doing at the moment, be struggling with financial worries. Whether it is not able to earn enough or maybe to find work at all, this type of stress is very common for long term anxiety. With most people it takes a long time to get into that much financial difficulty and probably even longer to recover from.

Life Style:-

This includes your diet; with modern processed foods many of us are not getting a well balanced diet, to keep the body healthy. Also with the stresses people feel themselves under many are using alcohol as a means to relax. Unfortunately the level of consumption rises rapidly to damaging the body, causing health issues in the body as well as the mind.

You should also look at sleep patterns; are you getting enough sleep and regular hours? Just as important is exercise to stimulate the body as well as relaxation time for you to clear your mind of worries and release the tension in your muscles.

What then?

The causes of your anxiety maybe more subtle then these, but whatever it is you should try to find the root cause. It may very well be the case that you cannot change the situation at this time, but at least you can now focus on trying to ease the anxiety it is causing. You may still use an herbal anxiety remedy or herbs for anxiety say in the form of a tea, to help you reduce your level of anxiety and help you deal with your everyday life.

You can look into different herbs for anxiety to see which suits your needs. For example St. John’s Wort is not just used for anxiety, but also mild depression and sleep disorders.

Hopefully in the long term you can reduce, minimise or even eliminate the cause of your anxiety, in which case your herbs for anxiety together with relaxation techniques will lead you to a permanent cure.

I have been suffering with depression/panic attacks for a few months now and I am on Zoloft but I talked with a herbalist and they gave me Omega 3 to take 2 times a day and a liquid called Rescue Remedy, for anxiety. I’m just a little worried about all of it. If anyone has tried it let me know please.

Best 'quick-release' herbal anti-anxiety remedy?

August 9th, 2010 -- Posted in anxiety remedies | 9 Comments »

Ive recently had some changes at work that have caused significant anxiety for me. I went to the doctor and was prescribed Prozac, but now that I have it, Im hesitant to take it. I dont feel that Ive given natural remedies a fair chance, an I really dont want to be on meds. I plan to increase my exercise, eat better, perhaps incorporate some meditation and yoga, but in the meantime Id like to find an herbal supplement of some kind that I can take in the moment if I have a panic attack or alot of anxiety, something that hits fast – I guess similar to a benzodiazepine, like Xanax or Valium – but without the addictive properties or any nasty side effects. I dont suffer from any depression, only anxiety. Im actually a very happy person, except when Im panicking lol :)

Can anyone recommend something like this? Ive only heard Niacinamde (Vitamin B) recommended for this instance. More information about that or any other herbal remedy is greatly appreciated.
My symptoms during panic include elevated blood pressure, muscle tension, and worrysome/intrusive thoughts.

What is the best herbal remedy for Social Anxiety? ?

August 3rd, 2010 -- Posted in anxiety remedies | 9 Comments »

I am currently taking St. John’s Wort for depression. I am looking for something that might make me view people in a more positive light (i.e. people to have fun with, not just something that provokes fear). I am also doing CBT, exercising, and following a healthy diet.

I’m hoping someone can speak from education or experience on the matter instead of just responding with the obvious Google search results. Thanks :-)
My biggest problems are OCD and high anxiety, not as much depression.

Herbal medicine for anxiety and depression?

July 3rd, 2010 -- Posted in herbal anxiety | 3 Comments »

Does anyone know of any herbal/over the counter medicine for anxiety (with depression)? I know there is St. John’s Wort but because of my birth control I can’t take that. I’ve also read of "Stressezz and True Calm." Do those things actually work? I’d rather stay away from prescription medicine since I don’t have health care coverage right now. Thanks.
